Collection comprises multiple documents from three members of the Ely family, Ben-Ezra Stiles Ely, his father Ezra Stiles Ely, and his brother Samuel Carswell Ely. This includes the handwritten autobiography of Ben-Ezra Stiles Ely, handwritten and printed official law documents of Ezra Stiles Ely and his wife Caroline Thompson Holmes Ely, and a land certificate of Samuel Carswell Ely.

The chapters include the death of his mother, a mention of "East Greenwitch," a time when he "had tried to believe there was no God," his marriage with Elizabeth Eudora McElroy on 1848 September 29, and other subjects.)
