Publications, 1943 - 1945
Scope and Contents
This subseries consists of Professor Austin's materials related to his service on the Universities COmmittee on Post-War International Problems: Wheaton Group. Professor E. J. Knapton chaired the group, and Knapton and Austin represented Wheaton in the group. However, semi-formal campus discussions involved Professors Seaver, Hidy, Mandell, and Jennings, among others.
Organized in late 1942 by Ralph Barton Perry, the Universities Committee was a joint effort to create and contribute to a joint, informed discussion about the efforts of creating and sustaining peace following the end of World War II. Participants in the Committee, which was associated with the World Peace Foundation, jointly considered a prescribed set of questions pertaining to some aspect of post-war life, and committee groups met at a conference at Yale University in 1943 to discuss their proposed solutions.
