Departmental Reports of Faculty To The President

 Collection
Identifier: 001-001

Scope and Contents

This records series contains departmental reports of the faculty to the president of Wheaton College. The reports are organized chronologically by academic year, and then alphabetically by department. All extant reports from faculty in a given year are contained in these records. The name(s) in parentheses following the departments in the extent notes indicate author(s). The reports from 1936-1955 were apparently destroyed, according to a note in the series.

Wheaton President Meneely died in 1962 and Elizabeth May became Acting President, and she kept receiving the reports after the college had hired a new President (W.C.H. Prentice). Dean May kept receiving the reports until 1967, when she became head of the Export-Import Bank of the United States.

The general outline of the reports is as follows: Courses taught within the department, and the enrollment numbers for those courses Outside activities: everything under the sun that members of that department did during the academic year. Professional development, conferences and presentations, campus club support, research, even field trips those departments sponsred. Course feedback (only included occasionally, not systematically) Recent graduates from that department and their activities and whereabouts. Recommendations, notes on faculty recruitment, and complaints veiled as recommendations.
