This manuscript collection includes personal, academic, professional, and legal documents regarding Dr. Anna Rechnitzer, a German professor at Wheaton from 1946 to 1963. The collection includes personal letters in German covering 1925-1950. It contains a family tree drawn by hand that is accompanied by description of family genealogy in German as well as documents and correspondence in German regarding family business and property, covering 1946-1959. The special collection includes documents regarding Professor Rechnitzer's education, including primary school and the Lyceum for girls (Madehenlyzeum fur Beamtentochter), her certificate, her gradebook, course and teaching certificates, copies of her Ph.D. dissertation on Belgian author Camille Demonnier in both German and in French, her University of Vienna diploma, her 1950 post-doctoral dissertation titled "Gli Umili nelle di Emilio de Marchi," and a work titled "Chapel Talk: Thomas Mann" with research notes from 1955.



The collection contains documents related to Anna Rechnitzer's career, including a 1946 yearbook called "The Rarebit" from Oldfields School in Glencoe, Maryland where Professor Rechnitzer was a member of the faculty. It also contains notebooks and various coursework from Professor Rechnitzer's time at the Ecole Francaise de Middlebury dated July-August 1946. They contain French and Greek grammar notes and as well as music and lyrics. Other professional documents include It also contains professional information, such as Professional Rechnitzer's resume, recommendations, and curriculum vitae (1952-53). The collection also contains coursework for French, Spanish, Latin, Hungarian, and German classes, such as blank and completed student exams.



The Anna Rechnitzer collection also includes financial documents, such as Anna Rechnitzer's tax returns and salary contracts. Miscellaneous documents, such as a map, informal notes, and the article from the Wheaton Quarterly in memory of the professor are also included in the collection.
