 File — Box: 27, Folder: 4

Scope and Content

From the Collection:

This small manuscript collection consists of 31 diaries and account books kept by members of the Alexander family, covering 1908-1965. It includes 23 diaries and 1 account book kept by Ernest C. Alexander, covering 1908-1965; 5 diaries by Ethna F. Alexander, covering 1950-1957; and 1 diary by Robert Alexander, from 1936. Another diary in the collection is from 1946 appears as though it belongs to someone named Joyce.

Ernest Alexander's entries are scattered. Some of his early diaries are left almost completely blank while the later diaries have daily entries. All entries are short, however, and he often only briefly comments on the weather and records from where he's writing, such as "home" or "office." He often notes going to Concord. Ethna Alexander's diaries comment on the weather, as well. She makes note of visitors and church. Robert's diary is largely left blank, but he records driving around town and seeing his friends. Joyce's diary is water-damaged and much of the diary is illegible. The diaries reference the other family members.
