Scope and Contents
Hannah S. Richmond's papers contain her callisthenic book (MS) that lists and describes gymnastic exercises. Hannah’s student notebooks include: English history, Bible lessons, verse; United States Geography, Maps; and Astronomical Questions. Several compositions (original and transcribed) are titled: “Health,” “Blind Man’s Buff,” “Friendship,” and “Remarks on Teaching by Miss Lyon.” Untitled compositions include the following topics: life as a kitten; reflection, grief and joy; and sentences using given vocabulary words. A transcribed copy of her school expense account is present as is an 1835 letter to her mother and sisters and brothers concerning the Seminary.
Later materials include a letter from J. Montgomery Gambrille to Wheaton President J. Edgar Park, regarding the date of the New York Herald Times article on Hannah’s notebooks, and a response from the President’s secretary. Correspondence between W.W. Norton and Company, Inc. and Dr. Park concerns interest in publishing Hannah’s diaries, 1934. Clippings consist of articles on Hannah S. Richmond in the years 1934 and 1987.
