Elizabeth Barstow Stoddard (1823-1902) was from Mattapoisset, MA, and attended Wheaton Seminary between 1840 and 1841. She became a novelist and 19th century realist, and her works include The Morgesons, 1842; Two Men, 1865; and Temple House, 1867. She also wrote stories and poems for many magazines such as Harper’s New Monthly Magazine, The Atlantic Monthly and The Independent, 1858-93. Elizabeth married and wrote for poet, editor and critic, Richard Henry Stoddard. [See Wh. Coll. copies of novels for further biog. info.]
